Talk:Abortion and the Bible

Elaboration

To elaborate on this, it would be interesting to find places in the bible where a couple is only called "parents" (or "mother","father") on the *birth* of their (first) child. Because if a baby is a baby from conception on, the parents should be parents from that moment on, too. Flostre 11:13, 21 October 2008 (CDT)

Negligence

One could argue that in the case described, the man didn't intend to kill the fetus, so it was killing out of negligence. In anticipation of this, one should maybe show how the concept of negligence is missing from the bible (if this is the case, which I'm pretty sure it is).

What the Bible says about Abortion

According to the current edit, "If a woman has a miscarriage as the result of a fight, the man who caused it should be fined." It should at least be acknowledged that some translations differ: the NIV and ESV--common translations in American protestant churches--both disagree with the RSV, while the KJV has been interpreted both ways. If you aren't aware which translation your Christian friend is using, you may end up sidetracked by an argument about Hebrew semantics. This (Christian, anti-choice) article explains the differences pretty well: http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Articles/ByDate/1989/1523_The_Misuse_of_Exodus_212225_by_ProChoice_Advocates/ Falterer 09:39, 20 September 2009 (CDT)
